In this week we have been learning how to draw using the graphics tablets on photoshop and some basic photoshop mechanics to get a kickstart on the course. We were taught to use a variety of different tools including the move tool, clear tool, various selection tools (such as the quick selection tool, magic wand and eraser), paintbrush tool and also how to use the graphics tablets.

For my experimentation, I started by researching multiple images of snakes on unsplash, as I had an idea to create a character concept based off from a creature called Dalamadur from a game series called Monster Hunter (as seen above). When I got the image that I was looking for, I downloaded it and dragged it into photoshop. Then, I used the paintbrush tool and the graphics tablet to make a sketch of the snake from the image I downloaded which took me a while to do (about 1 to 2 hours to be exact). I then went on to search for some images of arms with claws by using unsplash and I came across a Suchomimus image that had the exact claws I was looking for, which I downloaded it and edited it on photoshop until I only have the arms with claws left. I positioned the arms in the position I wanted them in and then drew over them using the graphics tablet and the paintbrush tool.

After I drew out my snake design concept, I used the fill tool to add colour to it so it doesn’t look bland and used the burn tool and the doge tool to add shading to the design. Then I decided to wipe the desert background to my image, as I felt that my design needed a background. So, I went on to unsplash again to find a picture of the desert, download it and drag it onto my photoshop project. I made sure to layer my snake design on top of the desert image as it’s pretty important to do so that my snake design would be visible. Finally, I edited the size of both my snake design and the desert background, but them both as one layer and added some shading for a finishing touch.
